NTC Opens Registration for 2025 GTLE 1

The National Teaching Council (NTC) has officially opened registration for the 2025 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 1, as mandated by the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (Act 1023).


The GTLE is designed to ensure that teachers meet the required National Teachers’ Standards, which assess their professional knowledge, practical teaching skills, values, and attitudes. Successfully passing the exam allows candidates to earn a professional teaching license.


Structure of the Examination


New candidates will be assessed through three exam papers:


1. General Professional Knowledge

– Focuses on literacy, numeracy, and essential teaching skills.



2. Grade-level Specialism Pedagogy

– Tailored to candidates' teaching levels: Early Grade, Primary, Junior High (JHS), Senior High (SHS), and Technical/Vocational Education (TVET).



3. Content Knowledge Paper

– Candidates in Early Childhood or Primary Education will write a Multiple Subjects Content paper.

– Candidates training for JHS, SHS, or TVET will take a Single Subject paper based on their specialization.




Eligibility Requirements


To be eligible, candidates must hold either:


A Bachelor of Education degree, or


A Postgraduate Diploma in Education.



Applicants with foreign qualifications must present an evaluation certificate from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).



Indexing Process for New Candidates


Before registering, fresh candidates must complete the indexing process:


Visit indexing.ntc.gov.gh to verify indexing status.


Pay an indexing fee of GHC 50 at any Prudential Bank branch or through mobile money by dialing *772*51#.


After payment, an indexing number will be sent via SMS. This number is required to proceed with registration.

Registration closes on July 7, 2025 — no late submissions allowed.

Re-sit candidates:


One paper: GHC 150


Two papers: GHC 210

No refunds will be made for candidates who pay without meeting the eligibility criteria.


Uploaded photographs cannot be changed after submission.

All candidates must adhere to a formal dress code during the exam.

Final Resit Information


This round of registration includes both new candidates and those resitting previous papers. A final resit is scheduled for October 2025.


After that, licensure exams for those who have already graduated will be discontinued. Anyone who fails the final resit will have to restart their teacher training program in 2026.
