Dead Explosion At A Shopping Mall In Taiwan 




On February 13, 2025, a gas explosion rocked the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi department store in Taichung, Taiwan, claiming at least five lives and injuring around 20 others. The explosion occurred on the 12th floor during construction of a new food court, resulting in significant damage and debris falling onto the streets below. Eyewitness footage showed extensive destruction within the building.

Emergency responders swiftly evacuated approximately 235 people from the vicinity as more than 130 firefighters worked to manage the situation and conduct rescue operations amid hazardous conditions. In response to this tragedy, Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te announced that multiple government agencies had been mobilized, including the health ministry to coordinate medical assistance for those affected.



President Lai urged authorities to investigate the explosion's cause promptly and advised the public to steer clear of the impacted area. This incident raises concerns as Taiwan has experienced severe gas explosions in the past; notably, a series of blasts in Kaohsiung in 2014 resulted in over two dozen fatalities and hundreds of injuries due to underground gas leaks. The previous explosions were so powerful they caused significant devastation, including overturned vehicles and immense destruction along main roads.
