DRAMA UNFOLDS: Woman Arrested for Arson and Stabbing Ex-Boyfriend in Sowutuom

A shocking incident has rocked the streets of Sowutuom, a suburb of Accra, as a 29-year-old unemployed woman, Augustina Adoma, was arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command for allegedly setting her ex-boyfriend's property on fire and stabbing him in a fit of rage.

According to reports, the dramatic incident occurred on Thursday, June 26, 2025, and involved Emmanuel Otabil, a 30-year-old driver and former partner of the suspect. Preliminary investigations suggest that Adoma acted out of personal anger and jealousy after seeing Otabil with another woman.

The events leading up to the arrest were nothing short of dramatic. Adoma arrived unannounced at Otabil's residence at approximately 9:00 a.m. and found him in the company of another woman. In a fit of rage, she poured a bucket of water on the couple and seized Otabil's Samsung mobile phone before storming off.

But that was not the end of it. Later that day, at around 4:00 p.m., Adoma returned to Otabil's residence in his absence and used a duplicate key to gain access to his kiosk. In a brazen act of revenge, she set fire to several personal items, including a mattress, carpet, bedsheets, and blankets.

The situation escalated further in the evening when Otabil confronted Adoma over the destruction and demanded the return of his phone. During the heated exchange, Adoma allegedly grabbed a knife from a nearby orange seller and stabbed Otabil in the left side of his chest.

Otabil was rushed to the Race Course Hospital, then transferred to the Lapaz Community Hospital, and finally to the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC), where he underwent emergency surgery. According to the police, he is currently on admission and responding to treatment.

The police acted swiftly, and Adoma was arrested at the Tesano Police Station, where she had gone to submit a medical report related to a separate assault complaint she had filed against Otabil. Ironically, the police retrieved the stolen mobile phone from her during the arrest.

The case is still under active investigation, and the police have not ruled out additional charges. Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs at the Accra Regional Police Command, issued a public advisory cautioning against acts of personal vengeance or violence, especially in domestic or relationship-related conflicts.

"The law provides proper and peaceful channels for resolving grievances, and no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands," the statement read. The police have assured the public that they are committed to ensuring justice is served and called on individuals involved in relationship disputes to seek lawful and non-violent means of redress.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked emotions and the importance of seeking help in times of relationship conflicts. As the case unfolds, many are left wondering what drove Adoma to such drastic measures and what the consequences will be for her actions.

One thing is certain, however: the Ghana Police Service is committed to ensuring that justice is served, and the public is urged to seek peaceful and lawful means to resolve disputes. As the investigation continues, the public will be watching with bated breath to see how this dramatic saga unfolds.
