
She spent several days touring schools in the region, quietly observing how food is being prepared and served. According to her, she was touched by the commitment of caterers and the joy on the faces of the children — but believes there's still more work to be done.
“I’ve seen real progress, and the dedication from caterers is inspiring,” she said. “But we must keep improving to ensure every child gets a healthy, satisfying meal.”
In good news for parents and communities, Shirley Naana Osei Ampem also announced that the School Feeding Programme is expanding to cover more schools in the region — meaning more children will benefit from daily meals at school.
Started in 2005, the Ghana School Feeding Programme is aimed at fighting hunger and boosting school attendance, especially among kindergarten and primary school pupils. It’s part of a bigger African initiative to reduce poverty and improve food security.
Simply put, the programme helps get more kids in school, keeps them focused in class, and supports local farmers by using locally grown foods.
